My goal for this wash day was to keep my curls in place. I used some perm rods to curl the hair a week ago, and I am not ready to lose this style. I know it will happen eventually, but I am doing what I can for now. It was my first time using baking soda on my hair. So I was not completely sure how much to use, as different bloggers use different amounts. I trusted my guts and went with what felt right.
#WashDayExperience
{1} I sectioned my hair into 8 big twists. I added 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 2 cups of water. I used the mix to wash my scalp only while my hair was still in loose twists. I massaged my scalp with my finger tips to get rid of all the product buildups. Then rinsed my scalp very well.
{2} I used a T-shirt to dry my hair for about 30 minutes because I did not want to add my leave-ins while my hair was still wet.
{3} I diluted some Giovanni direct leave-in conditioner in a spray bottle and sprayed my hair from roots to ends (where my hair ends in the twists) after I unraveled the twists
{4} I also applied some Extra Virgin Olive Oil for more moisture.
{5} I wrapped my head with a silk scarf after my hair was completely dry to avoid flyaways.
My first wash day with baking soda went well. My curls are looser then when I first got them, but I still have some. I will definitely use baking soda to wash my scalp again.
Have you tried DIY baking soda shampoo before?
that's interesting nerline.. haven't heard of it… what does it do?

It gets rid of the product buildups, leaving your hair clean and dirt free without stripping your it from its natural oil. It replaces your regular shampoo.
Great job your hair looks shiny

Very nice post 🙂 I've heard of the benefits of baking soda, and I also know it's a natural teeth whitener 😉 Didn't know it's good for your hair too 🙂 Thanks for sharing this.

I have heard about it but haven't tried it yet.
I'm too scared to use baking soda on my hair as it's so alkaline but I'm glad it worked for you. A lot of women seem to love it as an alternative to shampoo x
Great post. I am very interested in trying this. I color my hair regularly, do you know if it strips/fades color? Thanks Sista.
I've never heard of washing hair with baking soda either. I gotta try this, is it more gentle than using vinegar to wash away buildup?

I only used it on my scalp and rinsed it very well. I am not sure if I will do it again though.

I don't think so. It is more gentle than shampoo.
