Hello Everyone! It’s been exactly two years since I chopped my hair off. I wanted to do it on my birthday so I could celebrate both occasions together. It’s been a full year since I used heat on my hair also. I keep my hair routine very simple now. I am staying away from protein. If you know a deep conditioner with a mild protein or no protein at all, please let know. You will hear me mention the word shampoo occasionally, but I am trying so hard to stay away completely. My hair is really loving the no shampoo business. If you read my last post, you know how much I enjoy co-washing my hair with my beloved Alberto V05 Clarifying Conditioner. It gets the job done, period. It cleanses the scalp without stripping the hair from its natural oil.
- My wash day experience was pretty much like last week, which was a success. I co-washed with my clarifying conditioner.
- I moisturized my hair with my oil mix (extra virgin coconut, castor, and olive oils) while my hair was still damped. I love to add oils after washing my hair to lock the moisture in. Jamaican black castor oil is my go-to oil for sealing my ends, but using my oil mix works as well.
- I applied castor oil on my scalp to keep my hair moisturized under the crochet braids (pictured above)
- I braided the part of my hair that’s left out, and put my hair in a low bun after drying.
2013 ==>>>2014 |
I have learned so much about how to take care of my hair during the past two years. There were lots of failures, like not moisturizing my hair while it was in micro braids, and using too much protein. I suffered from heat damage during the first year. I also used one shampoo that left my hair dry and caused excessive shedding. The good thing is that I have learned from my mistakes and I still have more learning to do. And more products to try too:-) My goal is to grow out my edges and go extensions free by the third year.
I can image that your kind of hair takes so much care!

Happy Birthday gerrrl!!
I honestly look forward to taking doing my first big chop! I'm still very much concerned about whether I can take good care of it. What's the rate of your hair growth? Was it consistent?

The rate was not consistent. My hair grew about 1/2 inch a month, a little bit more when I use Jamaican black castor oil on my scalp. I trimmed my hair a lot too.
