How much do you really know about braids or braided hairstyles? Braided hairstyles have become such an “it” thing on the runways for the past years. But did you know that braids have been around since 3500 BC. In some countries, braid is used as a form of communication. It is also used to represent different tribes in some African countries. Although braids have been around for a very long time, not too many people accepted it. Not a lot of women walked around wearing braids. But when Alexander Wang sent his models on the runway wearing messy side braids in 2009, the braid made its comeback and is now mainstream. It became more acceptable as an office or red carpet friendly hairstyle for women with all hair types. Below are some of the braided hairstyles that graced the runways during New York Fashion Week.

The messy braids have always been my favorite. Whether you are wearing your pantsuit or going to a dinner date, this hairstyle is good for any occasion. And don’t forget those Game of Thrones braids that we love so much!
