Two weeks ago, I had a conversation with my husband. I was telling him how heavy I felt. I continued to tell him that I don’t look big, but I feel huge. He gave me that “yeah, you kind of do……kind of look.” I was like, you think I look big? He said, “Yeah, you need to loose at least forty pounds.” At first I was mad. I wanted to tell him you don’t look all that sexy and all six packed either, Mister! But it was a wake up call for me. I wish he had told me sooner. When I got on the scale two weeks ago, I was 178 pounds. Now I am 175.
See, a lot of husbands are afraid to tell their wives that they look big in those jeans. The reality is, all husbands should be able to tell their wives about their observations. And all wives should be able to do the same for their husbands. I was 132 pounds when I met my husband in 2003. He thought that I was too skinny back then. He used to take me to Chinese buffets every weekend to get me to eat so I could gained weight. I gained 8 pounds by the time we got married in 2005. We went on our honeymoon in Jamaica, and I gained two more pounds. I got stuck with 161 pounds after I gave birth to our son, Alexander. Two years later, I gave birth to Cianna who added 10 more pounds to my load. I went from wearing a size 6 pants to wearing a size 10. Seeing how big my arms were in this picture made me realize how big I was, and what I had to do to get back in shape.
I think working night shift has a lot to do with my weight gain. My hormones became unbalanced. Both my sleeping and my eating habits were upside down. When I started working from home back in March, I was convinced that I was going to be able to exercise, but I got distracted by other things, and never got to doing it. On top of that, I was not making healthy food choices. I am the pasta & pizza Queen. I am like the Italian girl who was born in Haiti. I never miss a chance to go to Olive Garden. Working night shift also made me eat late dinners, which is a no-no if you want to loose weight.
Let me tell you where the story gets funny. Yesterday I reach into my top drawer to get something to wrap my hair, and I pulled one of my VS lingerie top – it was shocking to see that it was a size S – I was about to wrap my hair with it when it dawned on me that I had not worn that thing for over 10 years. What was it still doing in my drawer? So I hung it in the bathroom to take a picture, and my daughter was like, ” Mommy, this is too small for you, right?”
Sometimes we keep clothes in our closets hoping that we will fit in them again, but that never happened for me. I think I have clothes in my closet in 4 different sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and X-large. Like I always say, I refuse to wear a size 1X.
I would rather squeeze my A.S.S in a size Large.
My Diet Plan
I
get really hungry around breakfast and lunch time. I guess that’s when
my metabolism is the fastest. I am going to try to eat heavier food
around that time and eat snacks in between. I will try to drink water
before I eat to make my stomach feel fuller faster, and I am going to
get at least 6 hours of sleep every night.
- Exercise at least 4 days a week for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Eat less carbs.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Cut back on sugary drinks.
- Eliminate bleached and enriched food like pasta and bread.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Eat light snacks instead of heavy dinners
We all need a reality check sometimes. Losing weight is such a sensitive and emotional subject that nobody wants to discuss it. Even those who truly love us have a hard time talking to us about the issue. I am glad I had this conversation with my husband. He made me see what everybody else saw when they looked at me. I am so very happy to start my journey. I know it will take hard work and determination, but I am ready. I am ready even if it means saying goodbye to one glass of Mr. Pinot Noir some nights. My goal is to loose 35 pounds by next Summer. So Wish me luck!
Just read this post in a hurry. Will be back to comment properly. I'm happy you are embarking on this journey đŸ™‚
That's it! the late night shifts! those things just mess you up like crazy. it's one of the reasons i quit my shift job back in december lol. you go girl! you'll get there in NO TIME. and whenever you feel you don't wanna do it anymore or if you "backslide" for a few days, get back on track and continue!
I know the night shift messed me up, Fola.I even became anemic after working it for 3 years.
I get so excited whenever I hear or see anyone (that obviously needs to đŸ˜‰ ) embark on a weight loss journey. I'll definitely be cheering you on.
Did you know pasta, eggs, wholemeal bread are good for you if you are trying to lose weight provided they are eaten in moderation. lol….been doing a lot of research to help me in my journey to get abs after two kids…lol
wish you the best……
Onyeka, moderation is something that I am trying to control right now. I want to stay away from pasta because I think I am allergic to wheat. I get bloated every time I eat it, even if I drink a lot of water. Thanks for your support.
Good for you! You will make this happen because it is something you want for yourself. Also try to get more raw/uncooked vegetables and greens in your diet. They are filling, full of fiber to help clean out the sludge in our system, and full of healthy nutrients.
Best of luck!

So true..though I have difficulties telling my husband when he gains weight..no one likes to hear it and he is really sensitive bout it. So I rather say something like "let´s go to the gym" and try to motivate him…http://jezzdallasmakeup.blogspot.com/
