Life Lately, Plus Our Giveaway Winner

It’s been awhile since I wrote a Life Lately post. And it’s not because nothing happened. A lot has happened, child! My son started middle school, we had a death in the family, and my daughter’s health has been unexpectedly great. I have been working on old blog posts, which has kept me away from other social media platforms. Moving the blog to wordpress was not smooth, but it made me realize how little I knew about writing a great blog post.  Today I am also announcing our giveaway winner. Thanks to all of you who participated!  With over 14,000 entries, this was our most successful giveaway so far, and it is all because of you!

Life Lately, Plus Our Giveaway Winner

We visited Palm Bay & Miami Gardens

My husband’s aunt passed away after a long battle with Pulmonary Edema. The doctors also had to amputate one of her legs because she had limited blood flow to that leg. We knew it was a matter of time, but we were still not ready when we heard the news. My husband and I took a weekend off from work and drove to Palm Bay, where we attended the Funeral. We also visited a few friends in Miami Gardens, since it was only two hours away. The kids enjoyed the trips because they got to meet their cousins, and it was spring break!

Surviving Middle School and snapchat

My son started middle school and made a lot of friends……………..they were all on snapchat! The principal warned us about snapchat when we went to orientation. She talked about how she hated it because it’s disturbing, even in the classrooms. So we went home and told Aj what will happen if he lets his friends on snapchat get him in trouble in school. The first quarter,  he was an honor student and got invited to be a member of the Beta Club, which made my husband very happy. But he started to lose his way when the second quarter started. He lied about not having homework so he could be on snapchat with his friends. His grades started to go down because of missing assignments and not studying for his tests. If you have a pre-teen, you know the struggle is real!

It turned out that him having his phone on school days was the problem. After talking to him about the bad decisions he was making, he understood why we had to take the phone away from him on weekdays. Me being his friend on snapchat was also part of the deal. I am just so happy he is back to being an honor student!

Fighting Myasthenia Gravis

My daughter suffers from Myasthenia Gravis, a condition that causes the muscles around her left eye to become very weak, which results into her eyelid getting droopy at times. She got diagnosed when she was in kindergarten, but she is in 4th grade now. The last time her eye got droopy was almost 2 years ago. She used to have episodes every 3-6 months before that. And every time that happened,  her doctor had to put her on prednisolone for at least a month to bring her eyelid back to normal. I hated the idea of her being on such a powerful drug.  But she has been very active  and she is a great tennis player. If your child suffers from this condition, don’t get discouraged. There is hope!

God never said life would be easy. We have to go through trials and tribulations in order to appreciate what we have. I look at everything that happens in my life as a teaching experience.  I wish I could get to pick and choose what happens to me, but I cannot. What I can do is not letting it bring me down.

Enjoyed reading your post and playing catch-up with you, Nerline!

I am sorry to hear about the death of your husband’s aunt. May God give you guys comfort in your time of mourning. *big hugs*

And I can totally relate with the pre-teen/teenage struggle. My oldest two had a few issues last semester because of their social media use, but me and my husband have created some boundaries and all is well again. It’s just so easy for them to get caught up in Snapchat and IG, forgetting about everything else.

Your daughter is such a trooper. I’m happy to hear her health has been great here lately.

And I thank you for always sharing an inspiring word. I admire your strength and courage so much. Sending lots of love from my family to yours, Nerline!

Thank you so much for sharing and for being so supportive, Dre! Kids are kids, but it’s our job as parents to get them back in the right direction. Thanks again, sis!

Life gets in the way my Sista and you look radiant. AJ has it going on and he’s to be congratulated. I do know how hard it is for a handsome dude to navigate thru middle school and this too will pass. Never heard of Myasthenia Gravis! Now I know. It’s amazing what I learn from my friends in the blogging world and I am so glad we met here. Much Luv!!
