This is my first attempt at creating Janelle Monae’s Cornrow and Fishtail Faux-hawk. Janelle Monae’s hairstylist, Caprice Green, is a Genius. Her creations are constantly being copied. From the Met Gala to the BET Awards, she never disappoints. Her latest masterpiece inspired me to create today’s hairstyle. I don’t wear much makeup, but I think I over-did it this time:-) My wash day was simple. So let’s get right into it!
Janelle Monae’s Inspired Cornrow and Fishtail Faux-hawk
#WashDayExperience
- Co-washed: Once with Alberto V05 and once with Head and Shoulders co-wash conditioner.
- Quick protein treatment with Africa’s Best Hair Mayonnaise.
- Air dry for a few minutes before adding my leave-ins. It took my hair a few minutes to dry, so I styled it the next day.
Hair of the week: Cornrow and Fishtail Faux-hawk
It took me a while to style my hair because it was my very first time doing the fishtail braid. The messy look is cute. Edge control was used to keep my flyways in place this time. I don’t think I will try to copy this hairstyle again because there are a lot of details involved than you may think. I had the extended fishtail braid on the right side first, then I noticed that it was supposed to be on the left. Here is a very helpful link if you want to try rocking this style. I love it so much on Janelle and I think mine came out looking nice, too. What do you think? Did you have a quick wash day like I did?
