Dying curly clips extensions or our own natural hair can be tricky. We can get the color right or totally wrong. The reason is that our hair’s porosity level determines how long it will take to get the desired color. Choosing the right product to color the hair can also be a problem, because you don’t want to buy a product that will cause long term damage to the hair.

For my 42nd birthday,  I wanted to do something different with my hair. I knew I wanted something colorful, but I did not want to color my own hair. So, dying some curly clips extensions was the final decision.  I figured it would be more versatile, since I was going on vacation, it would also help as a protective style. I used Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color + Moisture to dye the curly clips extensions.  This color collection is new and it is available at your local CVS.

Choosing The Perfect Color For The Curly Clips Extensions

I bought Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color + Moisture in Crimson 9.89. The color looked very attractive on the model and I thought it would look very good on me. The word moisture also caught my attention. When you have natural hair, you really don’t want to sacrifice moisture for color. You want to have both! And according to Schwarzkopf®, this hair color is suitable for all hair types. Whether you have curly, wavy, coily, or straight hair, you don’t have to worry about the shades not working for your hair texture.

Product Features:

  • The Color + Moisture line from Keratin Color leaves your hair feeling nourished and moisturized.  It provides irresistible even and vibrant color results.
  • Color + Moisture intense caring color provides long-lasting color with macadamia nut oil.
  • The protective Pre-Color Serum conditions the hair before coloring for a more even color result from root to tip.
  • Color + Moisture was designed for women of color. The shades work on dark hair and complement all hair textures & skin tones.
  • Keratin Color + Moisture provides deep nourishment, a moisturizing conditioner, vibrant color results, & hair damage protection.
  • The enhanced K-Bond Plex repairs inner hair structure and coats the hair surface after the coloration process for strong and healthy-looking hair.

Getting The Right Curly Clips Extensions

The curly clips extensions that I chose to dye is a natural kinky Afro 4b\4c human hair in #1b texture. It is very close to my own natural hair, but my hair falls more into the 4c category. The curls on these clips are tighter at ends and tend to get dry very quickly. I was not worried about coloring them, because Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color + Moisture comes with a pre-treatment serum that helps protect the ends before coloring the hair.

How To Dye Curly Clips Hair Extensions Using Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color + Moisture

Step 1: Get all the tools you need ready

I used the timer on my phone, but keep in mind that you need one. You also need a comb to distribute the mix, a towel to dry the hair, and aluminum foil.

Step 2: Set up the area you will use to color the curly clips extensions

The process of hair coloring can be messy. That’s why having a clean and dry area is important. I laid my aluminum foils over an old towel before I placed the hair on the foil.

Step 3: Open the box and read the instruction carefully

Before reading the instruction, I thought bottle #1 was the last step. It’s actually the first step. I applied it to the hair right before mixing the next two products.

Step 4: Mixing the cream with the solution

I am glad each bottle is appropriately labeled, because it makes mixing the cream and the solution faster. After putting my gloves on, all I had to do was squeezing the 2a bottle into the 2b bottle and shook the mixture.

Step 5: Applying the mix to the  curly clips extensions

With my gloves still on, I twisted the cap off the bottle and squeezed the color across the hair. I used my hands to help spread the color faster. I also used a comb to make sure the color was distributed evenly. I left the color on the hair for 35 minutes before rinsing it out.

Step 6: Rinsing and moisturizing the hair

I ran the hair under lukewarm water until I got a light pinkish color, then I used the conditioner that came with the kit to condition it. After rinsing the conditioner out, I added my leave-in conditioner and a mixture of shea butter and oils to seal in the moisture.

Step 7: Styling the hair

The last step was to style the hair, which was very easy. I twisted the hair and let it air dry for about two hours. I later use a hair dryer to complete the drying process.

This color is everything!!!  You don’t understand – I am 42 years old and this is the first time I am wearing a hair color that’s not black! The closest I came to wearing a different color was a #2. I did not color the top part of the hair because I wanted an ombré result. Dying curly clips extensions is very easy. The hair took the color very well and very fast. I was shocked at how moisturizing the hair felt after washing out the color. This is not my first time dying extensions, but I never got this level of softness before.

I went to Florida for my birthday, and I received so many compliments. The color crimson 9.89 is perfect for me because it goes with my complexion. Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color + Moisture now has me thinking about coloring my own hair, which I said I would never do. I highly recommend this brand and this color for women with all hair types. Schwarzkopf®Keratin Color is now only $9.99, plus $5 ExtraBucks Rewards when you spend $20 on Schwarzkopf® products at CVS while supplies last.
