I have been gravitating more and more toward plant based foods. At 43, my body is not what it used to be. My digestive system is even worse. Now, I have to be careful about what I eat. I have to be light on the meat, and even lighter on wheat products. To tell you the truth, I am not ready to stop eating meat. But, I have been taking baby steps and eating less and less meat, especially around lunch time. Today I want to share with you how you can add more plant based foods to your diet without breaking the bank.
How To Add More Plant Based Foods To Your Diet
1. Start with a smoothie in the morning
I am not going to lie. Eating healthy can can be expensive. Anything that can improve your health and boost your energy level is going to cost you money. But let’s not forget that adding more fruits, nuts, and vegetables to your diet can help you live longer and reduce your risk of getting sick. Buying fruits and vegetables during peak seasons have saved me a lot of money. I get them from the farmers market and freeze them. I know, not all fruits and vegetables are freezable.
Ever since my husband ended up in the hospital because of Covid-19, I have been making sure he eats a proper breakfast. If I don’t have time to cook breakfast, I make sure he drinks a smoothie or some kind of fruit and vegetable juice in the morning. If you want a little sweetness but don’t want to use honey, sugar cane syrup is a great alternative. Or, you can use unrefined brown sugar.
2. Try plant based Snacks like Happy Little Plants
In Snacking I trust. I am a true believer in snacking at least 3 times a day. I snack in between breakfast, lunch, and at least an hour after dinner. The kids and I love to watch a movie after dinner and we always leave room for snacks. As you can see, I stocked up on Happy Little Plants Protein Puffs. Like the name suggests, Happy Little plants are plant based snacks packed with protein.
Happy Little Plants are not only plant based, they are also Gluten-Free with no Preservatives, and come in 3 different flavors: Cinnamon and Sugar, Nacho Cheese, and Ranch. Each 1. 25 ounce bag contain 140 calories, 16g of protein, and 130mg of calcium.
3. Add Plant based soups or salads for lunch
Having a soup or a salad for lunch is another great way to add more plant based foods to your diet. Get creative and make your own salad dressing. I like to prepare my salads and store them in the fridge. This way they can be ready for me to grab and go. You can try different soups that don’t require meat. I haven’t tried it yet, but meatless Monday is definitely on the menu for 2021.
You can’t go wrong with eating a well balanced meal. You can’t go wrong with eating healthy snacks in between meals either. Happy Little Plants Puffs are convenient and they provide an easy way to introduce plant based foods into your diet. I invite you to get on this green journey with me. Let’s make 2021 our healthiest year ever!
I have to check out those Snacks pronto, cause I’m a snacker. Happy 2021 Sista!!
