How Groupon Helped Me Build My Wine Collection

I have always wanted to have a wine collection. And if you’ve been with me since the beginning, you know I love me some red wine! As a matter of fact, I was going through my vision book last week,  and I found a picture that I glued on there in 2007.  It was a picture of wines from different countries. If you are going to have a collection of wine, why not get them from different countries, right? See, when you have a vision, don’t ever worry about how it will become a reality. How Groupon Helped Me Build My Wine Collection

I love Groupon! Although I have the app on my phone, I don’t visit it that often. But about a month ago, I opened the app and found what I thought was a miracle. The deal was 16 bottles of wine for $49 + shipping. After reading the reviews, I knew it was not an opportunity that I was going to pass on. I did not have the money just sitting there waiting, but I knew I had to find a way to buy at least one box. But as you can see, I ended up with 3 boxes.

Splash Wines gives you the option to either start a wine subscription or buy as you go. You can also choose a curated case or you can build your own case. If you are very serious about building your wine collection, I think they have nice perks for their members. Since I already have a membership with winc wine, I did not see the reason to start another subscription with a different company, but my experience with them was great! I received my shipment on time. The bottles were nicely packaged. So far, I have absolutely no complaints.

Now my collection contains wines from at least 10 different countries, including Spain, Australia, Argentina, France, and Italy. I received 4 or 5 bottles of the same wine in some categories, but I am okay with that. I just have to replace them with different kinds when I can. You can also see that I have more reds than whites. It’s because one of the boxes was Red only. Like I said, I am a sucker for red wines.

How Having a Wine Collection Started

My husband always knew that I wanted to build my wine collection because I wouldn’t stop mentioning it to him. So 3 years ago, he bought me this wine rack from Amazon. And as you can see, there hasn’t been much wine on the shelves since I got it. I would try to add some bottles here and there, then end up using them when we have guests over. This rack is a six-tier, 72-bottle capacity that is very easy to put together. I love the fact that it is stackable. It is also safe. I don’t have to worry about the bottles falling and breaking. But, You have to be careful about the kind of bottles you put on there. I find that the long 750-ML bottles fit better than the short ones.

Being able to stock up these shelves and starting building my wine collection has been a dream come true for me. I thank God for Groupon and being on the app at the right time. This experience seriously gave me a reason to open the app more often to see what kind of deals they have going on. Now the challenge is to stay away from the office, which is where we keep the wines.
