1
Wash your hair with a shampoo that focuses on moisturizing
and detangling. Clean hair, free of dirt and product residue will hold
curls better and look better. Do not use conditioner on nights when you
intend to set curls in your hair. The products used in later steps will
serve to condition your hair. -
2
Apply moisturizer after washing.. Kinky hair texture
requires moisture to thrive, grown, and look its best. Not all kinky
hair is the same, and you may need more or less moisture than someone
with a similar hair texture. Look for water-based moisturizing sprays,
lotions, or natural oil products such as kemi oil, jojoba, or tea tree
oil. -
3
Twist your hair with setting lotion before bed. Unravel in
the morning for a beautiful set of natural curls. The size of your
twists is dependent upon the size of curls you want to generate. Section
off your hair, add a spritz of setting lotion, and begin twisting until
the twist in your hand secures itself against your head. -
4
Use bendy rollers if the twisting method does not work for
you. If the curl pattern achieved from twisting is not sufficient for
you, rollers can produce a more pronounced curl shape. Use smaller
rollers for smaller, tighter curls, and larger ones for bouncier, looser
curls. These curlers look like little hot dogs. Section your hair into
square plots on your scalp and spritz with setting lotion. Slightly pull
the hair, place a roller at the tip of the section, and roll the curler
up toward your scalp. These rollers are made to hold themselves in
place by you simply bending them in half and criss-crossing the ends
over one another. -
5
Tie your hair up with a satin scarf at night. The scarf will
hold twists and curlers in place while you sleep, while also reducing
friction from your pillowcase or covers which can leave hair fuzzy or
cause breakage.
