Head & Shoulders Green Apple 2-in-1 Dandruff Shampoo + Conditioner REVIEW

Today I am reviewing Head & Shoulders Green Apple 2-in-1 Dandruff Shampoo + Conditioner. I received this product to facilitate my review, but all opinions are my own. I laugh when I see companies write such bold statements on their products: “#1 Derm recommended” “#1 Doctor recommended
My daughter sees a dermatologist, but her doctor has never recommended this brand. Does that mean the product does not work? No. It only means that we don’t know whose doctor has recommended this product. As mentioned here, I have been using the original Head & Shoulders shampoo + conditioner on my daughter’s hair since she was a baby, and it is still the product that I would recommend for any child that has multiple allergies and suffers from occasional or seasonal rash/dandruff. #IamNotADoctor

How Head & Shoulders describes the product

Indications

Helps prevent recurrence of flaking and itching associated with dandruff.

Ingredients

Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycol Distearate, Zinc Carbonate, Sodium Chloride,  Xylenesulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Dimethicone, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Magnesium Carbonate Hydroxide, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Blue 1, Yellow 5.

Directions

For best results use at least twice a week or as directed by a doctor. For maximum dandruff control, use every time you shampoo. Shake before use. Wet hair, message onto scalp, rinse, repeat if desired.

My opinion

Head & Shoulders Green Apple 2-in-1 Dandruff Shampoo + Conditioner has a blue-ish color. The consistency is fairly thick and creamy, as you would expect from a two-in-one shampoo + conditioner. The smell is divine, but it does not last. It does have the green apple scent, if you were wondering. The packaging is perfect, as the product gets dispensed from the bottle with ease. I have been using head and shoulders shampoo on my daughter’s hair for almost 7 years. So, instead of using the product on my scalp, that has “no dandruff”, I used it to wash my daughter’s hair. The question is whether or not the product cleaned her scalp without stripping it from its natural oil. Since the ends of her hair felt a little dry, I used a conditioner on her ends to detangle her hair. I rinsed it out before applying the product directly to her scalp. I gently massaged her scalp, then rinsed out the shampoo from her hair. Her scalp was very clean after the first wash. The shampoo lathers well and rinses very clean. As a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, I find the product to be very stripping. Cianna’s hair felt a little crunchy. I had to condition, deep condition, and moisturize her hair in order to get it feeling soft and looking shiny again.
The bottom line

I am not saying that this is a bad product. As with any product that contains sulfate, dryness is inevitable. My daughter’s scalp get flaky sometimes due to food sensitivity. Next time I use this product on her hair, I will definitely do a hot oil treatment first. This will lessen the effect of the sulfate on her strands for sure. Diluting the product with a little bit of warm water might help too, since it is so creamy. The bottom line is that her hair looks very clean and her scalp has been looking better.

I was going to say that with the SLS I wouldn't use it on my hair that is extremely prone to dryness, but I do like the packaging. Great review dear.

My husband uses this shampoo and I love the smell of it. There are some scents of Head and Shoulders that I can't stand, but this one is great 🙂

Great post Nerline!! very detailed and informative, i have been seeing this product on the shelves alot lately but never tried it. If it dries out natural hair imagine what it would do with relaxed hair, although everyones hair is different though.

I've never had a problem with dandruff, but one time I used it (years ago) and it was drying. So I never revisited it. I love a green apple scent. At least you know how to resolve the sulfate issue.

I only used head&shoulders once and that was enough for me, my scalp got itchy, it was so dry, like a dessert. It was just not for me, I suppose. Happy new week, sista.
