We can all agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It wakes up your metabolism from the fasting state and gives your body necessary fuel to start the day. I know people who don’t eat breakfast in the morning and still manage
to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but I cannot skip breakfast to save my
life. I get cranky, jittery, and nauseous. You name it, I get it. But the great debate has been whether skipping breakfast in the morning leads to weight gain. Or does it make you slimmer?
According to a long term study (4-10 years) from Purdue University, skipping breakfast in the morning does lead to weight gain over time. I am definitely not the right person to conduct such a study on! The Author of the study, Megan A. McCrory, PhD., suggests stocking your kitchen with ready-to-eat foods or make something the night before.
I rarely skip breakfast. But when I do, I tend to eat more later that day. It is not always easy for me to cook breakfast in the morning. What I do is have a quick meal at around 7:00 AM. I know some of you cannot eat that early in the morning. I do because I wake up at 5:00 every morning, and I feel hungry as soon as I wake up because I am not big on eating dinner. My quick breakfast usually consist of a cup of coffee, toasts or some other baked goods, and a piece of fruit.
Well, the verdict is out! While you may not see the difference around your waistline right away, unexplained weight gain will be noticeable down the road if you skip breakfast every morning.
