An Eco-friendly beauty routine is possible and only requires a few minutes of your time. All you have to do is be conscious of the type of beauty products you buy and how you dispose of the packaging. In 2018 alone, 152.1 billion units of beauty products and personal-care packaging were sold in the world, according to Euromonitor International. Can you imagine these empty containers ending up in a landfill after each use? If each of us, beauty lovers, pays more attention to our beauty routine, we can do our part in protecting our environment and making it a better place for ALL of us.
5 Simple Ways You Can Make Your Beauty Routine More Eco-Friendly
1. Buy More Environmentally Friendly Beauty Products
Packaging is a simple way you can make your beauty routine Eco-friendly. By paying attention to how your beauty product is packaged, you can do your part in saving the environment. When shopping for beauty products, make sure you look for something that has compostable. You can also buy face cream or lipsticks that come in a recyclable or refillable tube or jar. Reusing your packaging is also a great way to be more environmentally conscious. Kora organics’ Turmeric Glow Moisturizer is one of my favorite products. It is cruelty-free, the jar is refillable, and it is certified organic.
2. Swap Liquid Soaps For Bar Soaps
Liquid soaps usually come in bottle containers, which in most cases will end up in your trash can, and eventually in a landfill. But, if you buy a bar soap that comes in a compostable box, you can turn the box into wild flowers or use it as plant food.
3. Use Up What You Already Have
One of the best ways to make your beauty routine more eco-friendly is by using up what you already have in your bathroom before buying a new product. You do not have to be a beauty junkie. It’s not a requirement. One of the things I started doing is giving away my beauty products to a Thrift shop. No. It’s really a thing. They come pick them up at my house! Another thing you can do is selling your beauty products on Poshmark, or Ebay.
4. Use What’s In Your Kitchen
We cannot talk about eco-friendliness without talking about fruits and vegetables. Yes! They sure do good to our bodies. I recently started drinking carrots and beets juice. When I tell you this combination has been life-changing! Forget about retinol, Hyaluronic acid. According to The Ohio State University, beets are rich in minerals and vitamins, such as iron and vitamin C. Using the fruits and veggies in your kitchen requires no bottles and unnecessary packaging.
5. (DIY) Make Your Own Beauty Products
Making your own beauty products at home can be fun and eco-friendly at the same time. A honey and lemon face mask is beneficial for both your skin and the environment. First, you are using what’s already in your kitchen. And second, you are not using extra packaging.
Thanks so much for this Blog Post; great information. I love pretty packaging and have actually bought products based on packaging rather than the ingredients in them (in the past)…lol
Now, I need to pay attention to compostable packaging. I love the idea of making my own beauty products too especially face masks and conditioner for the hair.

I think I have done the same thing too. Buying a product based on the packaging.
